It is that time of year and traffic is heavy again. CNN is reporting that “a total of 23 climbing parties are attempting to scale the peak from the Nepalese side this season.” Ever since the mid-1990’s it seems like everyone wants to go to Nepal and scale the tallest mountain in the world. Here are some of this years highlights (with my take):
- American “can do”: Calif. teen makes Mt. Everest climb
- Britsh aloofness?: Briton paraglides over Mt. Everest
- Chinese media has its own take: 3 International mountaineering teams top Mt. Qomolangma
- One for the home country: Appa Sherpa climbs Everest for record 17th time
- A sad reminder of the risks: 2 Korean Climbers Die Scaling Mt. Everest
- Finally, the heart warming story of the year: Grandson does Tenzing proud on Mt Everest
For those not familiar with the history of mountain climbing Tenzing (Norgay) along with Sir Edmund Hillary were the first to successfully scale Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) back in May 1953.
